Project Overview
✨About
Using a user-centered design approach, this project addresses the challenges RIT students face with limited on-campus dining options and costly food delivery services. The solution is a conceptual app designed in Figma that connects students with affordable, home-cooked meals prepared by local residents, providing both economic and community benefits.
✨Outcome
We created high-fidelity prototypes for a mobile app that connects RIT students to local homemade meals, catering to the needs of this specific user group and addressing the problem of limited on-campus food options and expensive delivery services.
✨Contribution
Conducted user research to identify RIT students’ needs, preferences, and challenges related to daily meal planning and food access.
Performed individual contextual inquiries with eight participants, observing and taking notes on their behaviors while ordering food online.
Analyzed collected data and synthesized insights into an affinity diagram to identify key themes and user needs, which informed the development of user personas.
Collaborated with the team to build low-fidelity prototypes and contributed to iterative design improvements leading to high-fidelity prototypes.
💎Affinity Diagram
We conducted individual interviews with five participants from diverse backgrounds including gender and race. Three participants were familiar with the process of buying homemade food, while two were not. Participants familiar with purchasing home-cooked meals demonstrated how they used apps on their phones to order homemade food, as they already knew some local sellers. Participants unfamiliar with ordering home-cooked food used their phones to search for information about potential sellers.
Each session lasted about 20 minutes.
